Assessing the Influence of Demographic Factors on Community Participation in a Demand Driven Development Project: The Case of Hazina Ya Maendeleo Ya Pwani Approach in Coastal Kenya

摘要: While recognizing that community participation stimulates local self-reliance and reduced dependency on outside agencies, it is also appreciated a number of factors influence participation. This study was conducted to determine the demographic by using empirical data collected from sample 326 members who participated in implementation Hazina Ya Maendeleo Pwani (HMP) project. The research carried out at Kenya coastal region comprising six counties namely, Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu Tana River. Data semi-structured questionnaire. Using multinomial logistic regression, examined extent which age, gender, type economic activity level education influenced development initiatives. Study findings revealed gender were two significantly participation, with women showing greater age had no significant concludes order stimulate optimal initiatives grass-root level, worthwhile make educational considerations. recommends there need enhance men interventions considering many socially constructed roles already assumed women.
