Effects of Alcohol on Anxiety-Relevant Cognitions in Individuals with Social Phobia

摘要: There is substantial evidence that alcohol can attenuate anxiety responding under some circumstances; however, the mechanisms supporting this effect remain a matter of speculation. One possibility involves on salience cognitions either promote or inhibit in response to anxiety-related cues. We tested view from phenomenological perspective by asking individuals with social phobia record up 6 thoughts they experienced during 2 public speaking challenges, 1 before and after consuming an alcoholic, placebo control beverage. After assigning listed participants rationally based categories, we found pharmacological expectancy effects alcohol, combination, were associated increase positive decrease negative while speaking.
