First aid knowledge retention in school children: A review of the literature

摘要: Introduction First aid training for lay people is recognised as an important capacity building component of pre-hospital care in communities. In countries such Australia, this increasingly targeted to school children, but relatively little attention directed knowledge retention or optimal methods population. This literature review aimed determine whether the published demonstrates that first retained by children who have learnt from professional providers. Methods A systematic search peer-reviewed and grey was conducted narrative review. Journal articles were retrieved three databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, ERIC) using terms ‘first aid’; ‘resuscitation’; ‘training’; ‘child*’; ‘school’. Inclusion exclusion criteria applied findings organised thematically. Results The yielded four primary studies European aged between 4 12 years trained Subsequent identified emergent themes of  Resuscitative  and  Non-resuscitative aid.  Heterogeneity apparent evaluation methods, study quality varied. Reported mixed. Conclusion There a lack evidence guide maximise children. To date, research area has been limited Europe. Further therefore recommended. Formal can help enhance thereby more robust community.
