摘要: The adoption of citizen science methodologies by environmental organisations and ecologists entrusts the task collecting ecological data to non‐experts operating at a local scale. This presents individuals communities with opportunities monitor change contribute management. Little is known about why volunteers choose participate in burgeoning contemporary research initiatives. aim this paper thus explore volunteer motivation for involvement two initiatives, based United Kingdom. It contributes understandings socio‐geographical influences that act on participation science. proposed within affective connections geographies provide conceptual framework understanding motivations. discusses main themes emerging from site‐based, in‐depth interviews 22 participants various UK locations. study revealed early bonds formed spaces endured throughout life courses, while offered way remaining connected environments. reflects endurance their manifestation expressed motivations participation, which emerged as fulfilling compulsion observe surroundings, desire commitment protecting proposes offers connect protect global affinity spaces, assisting monitoring change.
