摘要: Elevated levels of plasma homocysteine (Hcy) correlate with increased risk cardiovascular and Alzheimer diseases. We studied the effect elevated Hcy on blood-brain barrier (BBB) to explore possibility a vascular link between 2 On hyperhomocysteinemic diet, cystathionine beta-synthase (Cbs)–heterozygous mice develop hyperhomocysteinemia. Intravital microscopy analysis mesenteric venules showed that leukocyte rolling velocity was markedly decreased numbers adherent cells were in mutant mice. This due at least part expression P-selectin. BBB permeability measured by Evans blue dye permeation found be 25% greater Cbs+/– cortex compared wild-type controls. Our study suggests an important toxic brain microvessels implicates disruption BBB.
