Assessment of psychosocial problems in children with type 1 diabetes and their families: the added value of using standardised questionnaires in addition to clinical estimations of nurses and paediatricians.

摘要: AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To investigate the assessment of psychosocial problems in children with type 1 diabetes by means clinical estimations made nurses and paediatricians using standardised questionnaires. BACKGROUND: Although their parents show increased risk for problems, these lacks care. DESIGN: By comparing different modes assessment, a cross-sectional design, information about additional value questionnaires is provided. METHODS: Participants were 110 (aged 4-16), parents, healthcare professionals. Children filled out Strengths Difficulties Questionnaire Paediatric Quality Life Inventory, Diabetes Module. Parents parent-report Parenting Stress Index. Independently, short questionnaire, which assessed children's quality life, parents' levels parenting stress. Reports compared to estimations. RESULTS: our sample showed more lower health-related life than healthy peers. In approximately half children, dichotomous professionals dichotomised reports patients agreement. 10% no present according professionals' estimations, although parents-reported problems. 40%, did not report CONCLUSION: children. Professionals seem tend towards overestimating RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Extending routine screening on patient-reported outcomes, validated questionnaires, could be tailoring care needs individual child parents.
