Detection and mutation of a luxS-encoded autoinducer in Proteus mirabilis.

摘要: Quorum sensing regulates the expression of virulence factors in a wide variety pathogenic bacteria. This study has shown that Proteus mirabilis harbours homologue luxS, gene required for synthesis quorum autoinducer 2 (AI-2). AI-2 activity is expressed during and correlated with initiation swarming migration on agar surfaces. The P. luxS locus was cloned LuxS− strain constructed by allelic-exchange mutagenesis. While lacking activity, null mutation however, did not affect swimming or motility, swarmer cell differentiation, mouse model ascending urinary tract infection.
