摘要: Abstract Intensive pig farming is responsible for significant air pollutant emissions. This study explores the effect that large-scale implementation of cleaning technologies (wet acid scrubbers) housing facilities could have in European Union. Emissions related to stage NH3, PM10, NMVOC and indirect N2O from large farms (>1000 heads sows or fattening pigs) are first estimated actual situation (current scenario - CS), considering rates removal efficiencies different emission abatement techniques available. Subsequently, alternative scenarios (AS1 AS2) simulated with a growing rate wet scrubber (35% 65% concerned all Member States). A comparison between was carried out, taking into account emissions reduction, consumables operation environmental credit given by avoidance synthetic nitrogen fertilizer production. The annual impact on human health 21,212 disability-adjusted life years (DALY) CS significantly reduced AS1 (-15%) AS2 (-40%), showing trade-off largely overwhelmed abatement. At same time, current cost society at 4154 million € per year (of which 89% due NH3), also (−668 and −1765 AS2). expresses greatest efficiency, fundamental both reducing costs, demonstrating key role this need find solutions its containment EU.
