摘要: Free radicals pose serious threat to tissues and vital organs, especially membrane lipids, proteins nucleic acids of cells. Overproduction reactive oxygen/ nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) other related lead oxidative stress which has been implicated in aging a number diseases. react with biomolecules cause lipid peroxidation, loss enzyme activity, mutation carcinogenesis. A degenerative diseases including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, adverse hepatic conditions have attributed accumulation free radicals. Diseases resulting from radical overload might also different types cancers. However at low or moderate levels are human health. ROS RNS produced well regulated manner help maintain homeostasis the cellular level normal healthy play an important role as signaling molecules. Cellular antioxidant systems superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidases/reductase, peroxiredoxins along non enzymatic antioxidants viz., tocopherols, vitamin C etc., apart several dietary components protect cells organisms lethal effects excessive production. Natural products plant origin used traditional medicine for treatment Review Article Kumar Pandey; BJMMR, 7(6): 438-457, 2015; no.BJMMR.2015.351 439 overload. The diversity phytochemicals such polyphenols, flavonoids, carotenes saponins etc. present plants provide drug leads development novel therapeutic agents. This review deals biology, their consequences humans amelioration by botanical therapeutics.
