摘要: UNLABELLED Advances in genetics have prompted recommendations that all healthcare providers perform genetic counseling and testing. Some experts are concerned about potential negative outcomes from cancer testing performed without by certified professionals. We report a national series of cases illustrating qualified provider. Three major patterns emerged analysis these cases: 1) Wrong test ordered, 2) Genetic results misinterpreted, 3) Inadequate counseling. Negative included unnecessary prophylactic surgeries, testing, psychosocial distress, false reassurance resulting inappropriate medical management. CONCLUSION With the complexities it may be unrealistic to expect clinicians provide services. A more realistic approach is better provider education framework which identify patients who would benefit referral counselor or experienced professional.
