摘要: The global energy landscape has changed significantly in the last few years as a result of technological advances recovery unconventional hydrocarbon resources such tight oil and shale gas. Studies have been initiated to assess impacts extraction production hydrocarbons on surface water, groundwater, local air quality. There is additional concern over how their utilization scale may contribute atmospheric chemistry climate change. This article provides an overview opportunities challenges offered by abundance hydrocarbons, driving forces that encourage our rush employ them, need for Earth scientists engage studies properties environment. A fundamental understanding geological, mineralogical, geochemical processes integral we responsibly extract utilize these resources.
