Overeducation and the Assimilation of Recently Arrived Immigrants: Evidence from Australia

摘要: Australian immigration policy, in common with the US and Canada, has increased emphasis on skill based selection criteria. We examine immigrant overeducation early phases of settlement Australia. In particular, we assess role visa category entry region origin. contrast to expectations, immigrants did not experience markedly lower rates than those family visas. Whereas from Non-English Speaking Backgrounds, especially Asian, faced higher overeducation. Overeducation translates into a earnings penalties. Based results this study, aggressive pursuit policies may lead any substantial reduction
