An evaluation of a chemical cautery agent and an anti-inflammatory ointment for the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis: a pilot study.

摘要: OBJECTIVE Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is a very common condition, currently treated with anti-inflammatory agents, which palliate the symptoms. The purpose of this clinical trial was to compare medication commonly used treat recurrent stomatitis, Kenalog-in-Orabase, and newer agent, Debacterol. METHOD AND MATERIALS Sixty patients diagnosed were enrolled in study. Twenty assigned each two treatment groups, 20 age- sex-matched control group, received no treatment. After diagnosis made, examinations ulcer measurements performed, subjective evaluation symptoms (100-mm visual analog scale) completed by subject. subjects did not use any other medications. Both agents applied topically (the frequency varied depending on group subjects) at specified intervals. Ulcer evaluations made days 0, 3, 6, 10 for all subjects. RESULTS In both day 10, 100% ulcers had clinically healed longer causing pain. Patients Debacterol reported significantly greater decrease pain 3 (> 70%) than groups (< 20%), although size differ groups. 80% disappeared caused symptoms, as compared about 30% CONCLUSION subjectively relief from Kenalog-in-Orabase or associated may correspond improvement, these topical medications affect signs lesions differently.
