摘要: Abstract Detection and quantification capabilities represent fundamental performance characteristics of measurement processes, yet there have been decades confusion miscommunication regarding the underlying concepts terminology. New, coordinated documents prepared by International organization for standardization (ISO) [1] union pure applied chemistry (IUPAC) [2] promise to alleviate this situation providing, first time, a harmonized position standards recommendations adoption international scientific community. The section paper contains brief introduction events leading ISO IUPAC efforts. Section 2 consists (1) review history `detection limits' in chemistry, illustrating critical need development sound uniform system terms symbols; (2) ISO-IUPAC deliberations ensuing on nomenclature. 3 treats applications concepts, together with series unresolved or `open' questions involving: detection signal concentration domains, respectively; link between calibration limits, blank-intercept dichotomy. Also included are special treatments approximations, developed part document, involving non-central-t, exact (non-normal) distribution estimated concentration. final ( 4 ) introduces issues approaches multiple independent multivariate decisions concludes glimpse at some challenges blank non-monotonic functions.
