摘要: This study investigates what makes a country newsworthy in economic news around the world. Employing Web-mining techniques on 35 leading sites 10 most popular Internet languages, we calculated and tracked relative prominence of countries world’s from 2009 to 2012, time recession. Our findings suggest that major changes GDP, even relatively small economies, are no less important than overall GDP explaining countries’ world news. Time-lag analysis change identified three types relation between performance, reflecting extent interest, press freedom, availability reporting facilities. Network co-mentions revealed ripples when crisis hit noncore European countries, extending first Europe’s then global finally developing economies. We discuss our findings’ implications for future research field.
