摘要: Dried biomass of the marine macroalgae Fucus spiralis and vesiculosus (brown), Ulva spp. (comprising linza, compressa intestinalis) lactuca (green), Palmaria palmata Polysiphonia lanosa (red) were studied in terms their Cu(II) biosorption performance. This is first study its kind to compare uptake by these seaweeds South-East Ireland. Potentiometric conductimetric titrations revealed a variety functionalities on seaweed surface including carboxyl amino groups, which are capable metal binding. It was also found that, investigated, F. contained greatest number acidic binding sites while least. The capacities increased with increasing pH kinetic behaviour followed similar pattern for all seaweeds: rapid initial sorption period longer equilibrium period. P. reached within 10min exposure required 60min. Correlation between total time taken reach equilibrium. Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) analysis interaction carboxyl, amino, sulphonate hydroxyl groups Cu(2+) ions course studies established relative contribution each
