摘要: Home improvement is a popular activity, but one that can also involve exposure to hazardous substances. Paint stripping of particular concern because the high potential exposures methylene chloride, solvent human carcinogen and neurotoxicant. This article presents general methodology for evaluating effectiveness behavioral interventions reducing these risks. It doubles as model assesses patterns, incorporating user time–activity patterns risk-mitigation strategies. The draws upon recent innovations in indoor air-quality modeling estimate through inhalation dermal pathways paint-stripper users. designed use data gathered from home users about room characteristics, amount stripper used, exposure-reduction strategies (e.g., increased ventilation modification timing application, scraping, breaks). Results indicate depends strongly on characteristics size, number size doors windows, base air-exchange rates). greatest simple reduction achieved by using an exhaust fan addition opening windows doors. These results help identify most important information product labels other risk-communication materials.
