摘要: This research supplemented findings of previous projects on the topic vehicle detection. Because improvements in performance aspects and functionality non-intrusive detectors continue to occur at an ever increasing pace, there were reasons testing most viable products determine their interface potential with other components Texas Department Transportation’s (TxDOT’s) existing system. Like detector research, this tested latest promising technologies. The ones included were: video image detection systems (VIVDS), acoustic, magnetic, inductive loops, microwave radar. Besides evaluating detectors, scope also investigating TxDOT’s current Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) using contact closure inputs Local Control Units (LCUs) for collecting count, speed, occupancy data. Findings indicate that, tested, following technologies appear be freeway applications based cost, accuracy, ease setup: radar magnetometers. One VIVDS units was accurate but its cost setup inferior two. Neither two is affected by weather they are capable consistently achieving 95 percent count accuracy (or better) can detect speeds within 5 mph true speeds.
