摘要: Background Serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT), a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme, plays vital role in the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway malaria parasites. Two genes have been identified Plasmodium spp. encoding cytosolic SHMT (cSHMT) and putative mitochondria (mSHMT), but their roles not fully investigated.
