摘要: National data on psychiatric hospitalization point to marked ethnic-related differences. Blacks and Native Americans are considerably more likely than Whites be hospitalized; admitted as schizophrenic less diagnosed having an affective disorder; Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders admitted, but remain for a lengthier stay, at least in state county mental hospitals. These differences clear-cut, they ignore major source of care: placements other units Explanations observed minority-White can evaluated only partially or not all: Such explanations include socioeconomic standing the prevalence psychopathology; differential stigma, capacity tolerate support dysfunctional significant other; access use alternative services; bias behavior gatekeepers, especially practitioners assigning diagnostic labels making involuntary commitment decisions.
