摘要: The infectious reservoir of Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum in a malaria endemic region Sri Lanka was defined population 3,625 by directly feeding mosquitoes on sample infected individuals during period 17 months. case incidence this concurrently monitored. gametocyte densities were highest the youngest age groups, decreased steadily with increasing age. However, infectivity per appeared to be lower younger groups than older ones. There no significant correlation between patients their for falciparum, which only recently exposed, nor there discernible trend different groups. average lowest (0-5 years) oldest (greater 50) contribution made infection estimated. Patients 6-25 year largest reservoir, followed those 26-50 group. contributed least reservoir. When sizes taken into consideration, 6 50 years almost equally approximately 87% very small, being confined 9% patients, appears characteristic epidemic malaria, as falciparum.
