摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter explains the exploration of timbre by analysis and synthesis. Timber is referred as quality sound. It perceptual attribute that helps in distinguishing among orchestral instruments are playing same pitch equally loud. But, unlike loudness pitch, not a well-defined attribute. The timber auditory sensation terms which listener can judge two sounds similarly presented having dissimilar. seems form timbral constancy implied common observation sound source be reliably identified over wide variety circumstances. For periodic tones, depends upon spectrum. has long been thought musical tones periodic, at least for most their duration. Musical often comprising three sections: attack, steady state, decay. Helmholtz his followers considered to determined spectrum state. However, this conception suffers from serious difficulties. Thus, briefly discusses shortcomings classical conception.
