摘要: Do passenger deaths occur during commercial air travel? If so, how often and from what causes? We reviewed information reported to the International Air Transport Association on in-flight that occurred travel for eight years between 1977 1984. Of 120 airlines in Association, 42 carriers these years. A total of 577 were recorded, a average 72 per year. Deaths at rates 0.31 million passengers, 125 billion passenger-kilometers, 25.1 departures. The majority those who died men (66%, 382/577) middle-aged (mean age, 53.8 years). Most individuals (77%, 399/515) no health problems prior travel. Physicians aboard aircrafts offered medical assistance 43% (247/577) deaths. More than half (56%, 326/577) seemed be related cardiac problems. Sudden unexpected death was cause 63% (253/399) apparently healthy people seems major These observations support initiation programs train cabin personnel skills basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation use automatic external defibrillators.
