摘要: Coastal marine biodiversity within eastern boundary upwelling systems (EBUS) is closely linked to the cooler sea temperatures associated with them. It has been suggested that global warming could lead enhanced surface cooling in EBUS via intensification of upwelling-favorable winds. Conversely, increased stratification and widespread world's oceans drive these opposite direction. These competing mechanisms hold potential for driving thermal envelopes towards – or away from found outside EBUS, likely contrasting implications conservation each scenario. Here we characterize patterns net rates over more than three decades throughout ocean evaluate if waters inside are changing differently those EBUS. Results point a trend reduced especially along nearshore. We was prevalent Pacific but restricted Atlantic In contrast, coastal pervasive generally proximity land. Our results suggest have responding climate change rest ocean, potentially buffering biomes warming.
