The Role of La Familia on Mexican American Men's College Persistence Intentions

摘要: Mexican American men lag behind academically. To that end, this study examined the mediating role of parental encouragement in relation between familismo and college persistence intentions among 186 men. The mediation analysis suggested fully, positively, significantly mediated for sample Furthermore, explained 53% variance indirect intentions. We also asked two open-ended questions about participants’ potential barriers to persistence. Three dimensions academic supports (i.e., attitudinal, instrumental, social support factors) four struggles, unexpected events, family, nothing) emerged. Research practice implications study’s findings are delineated.
