Use of Administrative Data for the Surveillance of Mental Disorders in 5 Provinces

摘要: To evaluate the usefulness of administrative data for surveillance mental illness in Canada using databases following 5 provinces: British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Alberta. We used a population-based record-linkage analysis with from physician billings, hospital discharge abstracts, community-based clinics. The diagnostic codes International Classification Diseases, Ninth Edition, were to define cases: 290 319, inclusive. prevalence treated psychiatric disorder was similar Alberta, Ontario at about 15%. Quebec slightly lower 12%. Findings provinces showed remarkable consistency across age sex, despite variations coding. Women tended show higher overall disorders than men. Prevalence increased steadily middle age, declining 50s 60s, then increasing again after 70 years. Provincial territorial can provide useful, reliable, economical source information disorders. Such system longitudinal little cost support health service provision planning.
