摘要: Background. The risk of lung cancer is increased with cigarette smoking and obstructive disease. Patients having a volume reduction operation represent high-risk population for cancer. Methods. Between March 1994 December 1996, 281 patients underwent operation. All had severe disease hyperinflation. incidence nodules their management were addressed. Results. Of the patients, 39.5% at least one nodule identified. Fifty-two typical benign calcification patterns. remaining nodules, 78 resected 20 followed up. Seventeen cancerous, which 13 primary cancers. there 28 not identified by preoperative radiologic evaluation. Conclusions. Nodules are frequently seen in undergoing operations. overall was 6.4%, several only pathologic examination. Survival short follow-up has been excellent those this group should be aggressively diagnosed managed.
