摘要: OBJECTIVE To assess the association of ocular disorders and high doses antioxidants or zinc with mortality in Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). METHODS Baseline fundus lens photographs were used to grade macular status AREDS participants. Participants randomly assigned receive oral supplements high-dose antioxidants, zinc, plus placebo. Risk all-cause cause-specific was assessed using adjusted Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS During median follow-up 6.5 years, 534 (11%) 4753 participants died. In fully models, advanced age-related degeneration (AMD) compared few, if any, drusen had increased (relative risk [RR], 1.41; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.08-1.86). Advanced AMD associated cardiovascular deaths. Compared having good acuity both eyes, those visual worse than 20/40 1 eye (RR, 1.36; CI, 1.12-1.65). Nuclear opacity 1.40; 1.12-1.75) cataract surgery 1.55; 1.18-2.05) cancer lower not taking 0.73; 0.61-0.89). CONCLUSIONS The decreased survival suggests that these conditions may reflect systemic rather only local processes. improved individuals requires further study.
