摘要: Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in US. While environment has undeniable impact, evidence suggests that genetic factors play a major role completed suicide. We have >4,500 DNA samples from suicides through collaboration with Utah Medical Examiner. linked records these cases to Population Database which includes multi-generation genealogies, demographic data, and medical information on over 8 million individuals. This linking resulted extended families (7-9 generations) significant familial risk Familial aggregation across distant relatives minimizes effects shared environment, provides more genetically homogeneous groups, magnifies risks repetition. analyzed 215 suicide 43 our largest high-risk identified 16 regions genome-wide significance 10 families. Of 163 genes regions, 25% were associated psychiatric risk. also found 13 suggestive where region overlaps >1 family (p-values 4.63E-09
