摘要: Until recently, bacterial species that inhabit the human vagina have been primarily studied using organism-centric approaches. Understanding how these interact with each other and host vaginal epithelium is essential for a more complete understanding of health. Molecular approaches already led to identification uncultivated taxa associated vaginosis. Here, we review recent studies microbiome discuss culture-independent approaches, such as applications next-generation sequencing, are advancing field shifting our health defined. This work may lead improved diagnostic tools treatments women who suffer from, or at risk for, imbalances, pregnancy complications, sexually acquired infections. These also transform genetic factors, physiological conditions (e.g., menopause), environmental exposures smoking, antibiotic usage) influence microbiome.
