摘要: Abstract : Data from the 1980 Tyrrhenian Sea mixed-layer experiment (MILEX-80) are reported. Results presented and discussed. The high south-north gradients in depth explained by an Ekman pumping mechanism (upwelling downwelling) caused a maximum west wind blowing through Bonifacio Strait. It is also argued that this band of (or jet) chiefly responsible for pair counter-rotating eddies observed to be quasi-permanent features zone. Measured currents area were found up twice as great estimated density field. This suggests strong barotropic component north Sea. Some results models compared with data. These illustrate need generalize one-dimensional 3-dimensions properly model mixed layer areas, such MILEX-80 zone, where there spatial variability wind-stress curl using two independent methods historical data same area. first method involves estimating upwelling downwelling required obtain heat balance region. second relation between inertial period temperature variance thermocline pulsations mass flux divergence stress curl. show good agreement each other
