A Medical Treatment for Diacetylmorphine (Heroin) Addiction

摘要: A group of 22 patients, previously addicted to diacetylmorphine (heroin), have been stabilized with oral methadone hydrochloride. This medication appears two useful effects: (1) relief narcotic hunger, and (2) induction sufficient tolerance block the euphoric effect an average illegal dose diacetylmorphine. With this medication, a comprehensive program rehabilitation, patients shown marked improvement; they returned school, obtained jobs, become reconciled their families. Medical psychometric tests disclosed no signs toxicity, apart from constipation. treatment requires careful medical supervision many social services. In our opinion, both supporting are essential.
