摘要: Abstract Grain size, carbonate and organic carbon data obtained from a total of 73 surficial bottom sediments together with some available hydrographic were used to investigate the major depositional characteristics sediment transport paths on shelves Gulf Iskenderun. Sediments more than 30% biogenic composed variety benthic organisms' remains have formed belt sea-floor gulf entrance which extends northwards offshore Ceyhan Delta eastward along southern coast. North-westerly easterly flowing open-sea currents, low terrigenous sedimentation, bathymetry high topographic relief coastal hinterland seems be responsible for formation this benthogenic zone. The two other zones found in eastern north-eastern parts are under influences increased anthropogenic activities ephemeral fluviatile input material. typical seaward profile Delta, near-shore delta-front, pro-delta facies, was actively modified by current action. ratio silt – clay, clay medium silt, coarse fine fractions revealed occurrences at least distinct patterns concentric zonal depositions, good agreement prevailing hydraulic gyre regimes gulf. These characterized fractionation processes that separate finer-grained coarser-grained whereby contents increase towards centres these gyres, predominantly an direction. Similar deposition also mirrored sediments. We propose water movement pathways Iskenderun based upon interpretation water-current analysis sedimentological data.
