摘要: Population cycling is a widespread phenomenon, observed across multitude of taxa in both laboratory and natural conditions. Historically, the theory associated with population cycles was tightly linked to pairwise consumer–resource interactions studied via deterministic models, but current empirical theoretical research reveals much richer basis for ecological cycles. Stochasticity seasonality can modulate or create cyclic behaviour non-intuitive ways, high-dimensionality systems profoundly influence cycling, so demographic structure eco-evolutionary dynamics. An inclusive cycles, ranging from ecosystem-level modelling, grounded observational experimental data, therefore necessary better understand cyclical patterns. In turn, by gaining insight into drivers we begin causes cycle gain loss, how biodiversity interacts effectively manage wildly fluctuating populations, all which are growing domains research.
