High-strength/high-modulus fibers of p-phenylene oxadiazole/n-methyl hydrazide copolymers—a new class of high-performance organic materials

摘要: p-Phenylene oxadiazole/N-methyl hydrazide copolymers were prepared by polymerization of terephthalic acid, dimethyl terephthalate, and hydrazine sulfate in fuming sulfuric coagulation the polymer was obtained aqueous acid. Fibers spun from these have unusually high strength modulus, making materials attractive for reinforcement articles such as tires. Yarn tenacities 16–21 gpd moduli 350–450 obtained. showed no significant degradation under conditions to which a tire cord material is subjected building end use. In their performance vehicle tires, cords found be competitive with other reinforcing agents fiber glass, steel, commercial poly(p-phenyleneterephthalamide).
