摘要: Research on technology for soft tissue radiofrequency (RF) ablation is ever advancing. A recent proposal to standardise terminology of RF electrodes only deals with the most frequently used commercial electrodes. The aim this study was develop a logical, versatile and unequivocal describe present future multiple electrode systems. We have carried out PubMed search period from January 1 1990 July 2004 in seven languages contacted six major companies that produce use clinic. In first step, names been defined five existing basic designs single-shaft electrode. These had be unequivocal, descriptive electrode's main working principle as short possible. second these building blocks combination designs. third using same principles, logical has developed systems, combined more than one Five were identified defined: plain, cooled, expandable, wet bipolar Combination included cooled-wet, expandable-wet, bipolar-wet, bipolar-cooled, bipolar-expandable bipolar-cooled-wet Multiple systems could characterised by describing several features: number (dual, triple, ...), electric mode (monopolar or bipolar), activation (consecutive, simultaneous switching), site inserted (monofocal multifocal), type single shaft used. terminology, naming based objective criteria. can easily current This provides an exact complete description novel
