摘要: Ovarian cancer represents the most lethal gynecologic malignancy, primarily due to a lack of early detection, which results in patients being diagnosed at an advanced stage disease. Though ovarian surface epithelium is thought provide primary site tumorigenesis, exact etiology various tumor types associated with this disease remain undefined. Recent evidence suggests that tumors, like other solid contain distinct populations cells are responsible for initiation, maintenance and growth. These specialized cells, termed stem display some hallmarks normal evade current chemotherapeutic strategies, resulting increased risk recurrence. Here we review existence malignancies their contribution pathology disease, critically evaluate methods used cell definition isolation, discuss clinical relevance.
