摘要: Challenges associated with the current screening and diagnostic process for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in US cause a significant delay initiation of evidence-based interventions at an early age when treatments are most effective. The present study shows how implementing second-order measure to high risk cases initially flagged positive from tools can further inform clinical judgment substantially improve identification. We use two example measures purposes this demonstration; saliva test eye-tracking technology, both scalable easy-to-implement biomarkers recently introduced ASD research. Results cost-savings analysis indicate that lifetime societal cost savings special education, medical residential care estimated be nearly $580,000 per child, annual education exceeding $13.3 billion, $23.8 billion (of these, $11.2 attributable Medicaid). These total more than $37 billion/year US. Initiating appropriate faster reducing number unnecessary evaluations decrease costs society. demonstrate value highly accurate terms LAY SUMMARY: This paper demonstrates accuracy detecting could used increase efficiency diagnosis. also show that, if children identified referred intervention services, system would realize substantial across lifespan.
