摘要: A key to the success of long-term storage CO 2 in depleted oil or gas reservoirs is hydraulic integrity both geological formations that bound it, and wellbores penetrate it. This paper provides a review geomechanical factors affecting bounding seals for reservoir slated use as injection zone. Potential leakage mechanisms reviewed include fault reactivation, induced shear failure caprock, out-of-zone fracturing, poorly sealed casing cements enlarged, unstable boreholes. Parameters controlling these upper lower bounds pressure temperature experienced by reservoir, orientation mechanical properties existing faults, rock properties, situ stresses, depth shape. Approaches mitigate likelihood geomechanics-related identification safe limits on pressures, preferred well locations, historical records temperatures stimulation treatments, drilling program design yielding new wells, assessment wellbore indicators wells.
