The TAPS project. 16: Difficult to place, long term psychiatric patients: risk factors for failure to resettle long stay patients in community facilities.

摘要: OBJECTIVE--To identify patients who could not be resettled in the community as part of closure plans two psychiatric hospitals and to determine their numbers risk factors for failure. DESIGN AND SETTING--Prospective study Friern Claybury hospitals. PATIENTS--The first third (369) long stay resettled. OUTCOME MEASURES--Reasons being readmitted hospital leaving patients' service needs. RESULTS--22--6% both hospitals' patients--were successfully community. Eighteen continuing care places per 100,000 catchment area population seem required this group. Patients whose placements were unsuccessful usually because a deterioration mental state aggressive behaviour, which persisted necessitated hospital, often locked ward. Risk associated with failure high level psychosis; diagnosis paranoid incontinence; male. But having social network, especially large one, seemed aid successful placement CONCLUSION--Rehabilitation efforts should focused on characteristics these that put them at failing succeed placements.
