摘要: Exposure to sunlight, specifically ultraviolet B (UVB), is essential for cutaneous vitamin D synthesis. Despite significant daily sunlight availability in Africa and the Middle East, persons living these regions are frequently insufficient or deficient. Vitamin insufficiency (25-hydroxyvitamin (25(OH)D) between 15 20 ng/mL (37.5 - 50 nmol/L)) has been described various population groups, ranging from 5% 80%. Risk factors include traditional dress avoidance of exposure, multiple dietary as a result specific cultural beliefs. resistance due calcium deficiency mechanisms similar which may lead hypovitaminosis D. Should new diseases related prove be truly associated, East will become an epicentre many conditions. Urgent attention need paid behaviours if taken seriously. such not correctable, strategies supplementation food fortification have devised.
