Use of the Hickman catheter as permanent vascular access for hemodialysis.

摘要: Nineteen patients in whom it was impossible to create an arteriovenous (AV) fistula were hemodialyzed with adult Hickman catheters as the sole vascular access. Catheter survival 45% at 1 year, eight requiring two or three for continuation of their treatment. The probability a patient still being dialyzed catheter year 69%. calculated risk developing most frequent complications 0.07/100 days sepsis, 0.4/100 thrombosis, and 0.06/100 outflow obstruction. These figures seem quite acceptable, use permanent access is warranted this category difficult patient.
