A Categorization of Virtual Agent Appearances and a Qualitative Study on Age-Related User Preferences

摘要: Various variables influence the perception of appearance, which are difficult to examine holistically in a quantitative approach. To give holistic overview appearance variables, systematic categorization different dimensions was developed. This is also special importance with view application field companions for seniors whose preferences regarding under-researched. Therefore, based on categorization, 11 interviews two target groups (six students, five elderly) were conducted. Results indicate that tend prefer realistic humanoid agent, while students mostly rejected this and instead favored zoomorphic or machinelike agents comic stylization. In sum, current research gives first hint there age-related differences regard appearance.
