摘要: Recognized as a principal figure in ecological anthropology, Roy Rappaport is best known for his study Pigs the Ancestors (1968). His work anthropology of religion has received less attention. Least acknowledged Rappaport's role defining an “engaged” anthropology. Drawn from interviews Tom Fricke conducted with year before death October 1997, this article gives insight into these three facets professional life. Beginning account fieldwork Tsembaga Maring, discussion takes up core themes, ideas that evolved out early field experience and which he was engaged worked to finish final book, Ritual Religion Making Humanity (1999).
