摘要: The school formal in New Zealand constitutes a rich site of analysis for researchers interested gender and sexuality performances. As social space, the both shapes bodies is shaped by them. In this article, we explore formals three different types schools: single sex girls’, boys’ co-ed. high school, all from an urban centre. Using theoretical tools provided poststructuralism queer theory, conducted discourse observations first author at two formals, interviews with staff students peer researchers. We demonstrate how same-sex practices do not necessarily map onto bodies, masculinity ‘male’ or femininity ‘female’ bodies. Such fluidity challenges rigid heterosexual/homosexual masculine/feminine binaries so that schools are more inclusive sexual diversity.
