Thyrotoxicosis and collagen-like disease in three sisters of American Indian extraction

摘要: Three sisters of Cherokee Indian extraction are described who developed thyrotoxicosis during early adolescence and in whom clinical syndromes simulating rheumatoid arthritis systemic lupus erythematosus occurred either or following treatment with antithyroid drugs the thionamide class. In one sister was permanent, second it apparently transient; third symptomatology accompanied by appearance typical erthematosus cells. The association a phenomenon methimazole therapy has not been previously described. literature on diseases thyroid connective tissue is reviewed; common etiology basis genetically predisposing disturbance autoimmune tolerance suggested.
