摘要: The food systems upon which humanity depends face multiple interdependent environmental, social and economic threats in the 21st Century. Yet, governance of these systems, determines to a large extent ability adapt transform response challenges, is underresearched. This perspective piece synthesises findings two recent reviews transformations proposes comprehensive research agenda for coming years. These highlight influence on methodological obstacles explaining effectiveness realising sustainability, conditions that have historically supported system transformations. We argue following steps are key improving our knowledge role systems: (1) developing more comparable designs building generalisable explanations elements most effective goals; (2) using lens polycentricity help disentangle complex networks; (3) giving greater attention pre-conditions associated with historical transformations; (4) identifying adaptations strengthen or weaken path dependency; and, (5) focusing how can be by institutions facilitate collective action stakeholder agency.
