摘要: The readership of this book is a varied one. Some will know great deal about plant breeding but little genetic engineering; others have reciprocal knowledge. Yet there clearly an area overlap interests which it the object to explore. I am honored by having been invited discuss in introductory way, help set stage, so speak, for more detailed discussions follow. In doing so, conscious that must concentrate upon wider issues breeding, not details, and cannot evade responsibility stating some kind view as probable place engineering. My treatment inevitably broad taken provocation here be amiss. With approach mind shall first outline general character (with apologies professionals audience who all already) then enumerate what take principal problem areas subject, we really need much hard thinking, calculation experiment.
