摘要: The effects of vacuum‐deposited SiOx alignment layers on the thermal generation focal conic centers in a smectic A liquid crystal were investigated using controlled cycles. Surface defects found to promote formation. Focal density increases with cooling rate for given layer, and deposition angle layer fixed rate. An attempt was made fit these findings heterogeneous nucleation theory an effort better understand selected thermodynamic properties formation process
