摘要: Abstract The XAD-4 extraction system evaluated in Part I of this series was used to pre-concentrate polyethoxylated material from waste water produced by a small relatively unindustrialized city. Samples were taken the inlet and outlet main sewage plant river into which effluent discharged. A three-stage isolation procedure developed final extract each sample separated non-ionic detergent component polyethylene glycol (PEG) component. concentrations found low (less than 1μg ml−1) influent about 100 times lower (approximately 8 ng water. Comparing same samples, PEG concentration as percentage increased 3% 30%. Further characterization extracts attempted using thin-layer chromatography spectroscopic methods, two types identified These alkylphenol ethoxylates (APE) linear aliphatic alcohol ethoxylates, can be further subdivided secondary ethoxylate (SAE) primay (PAE). APE most persistent, while broke down much more rapidly plant.
